Privacy Policy — EconLens
Last updated: 2026-07-19
This Privacy Policy explains how Kushal S Shah ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use EconLens (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to this policy.
1. What information we collect
1.1 Information you provide when you sign in
When you sign in using Google or Apple, the App receives the following from the identity provider:
| Data | Source | How we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Display name | Google / Apple | Shown in your profile within the App |
| Email address | Google / Apple | Account identification; support contact |
| Profile photo URL | Displayed in your profile (Apple does not provide a photo) |
We do not collect your password. Authentication is handled entirely by the identity provider (Google or Apple). We never see your credentials.
Apple Sign In note: Apple may provide a private relay email address if you chose "Hide My Email." We treat this the same as a regular email address and do not attempt to de-anonymize it.
1.2 Google Sheets integration (optional)
If you connect Google Sheets export (an optional feature), the App requests OAuth permission to read and write one specific Google Sheet that you select. We use this access solely to export your EconLens economic event data to that Sheet on your behalf.
- We access only the single Sheet you explicitly select during connection.
- We do not access Google Drive, Gmail, Google Docs, other Sheets, or any other Google service.
- You can revoke this access at any time from Settings → Google Sheets Export → Disconnect.
1.3 Brokerage connection data (optional)
If you connect a brokerage account using SnapTrade (an optional feature), the App retrieves read-only portfolio holdings on your behalf:
| Data | Source | How we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Portfolio holdings (tickers, quantities, market values) | SnapTrade Investments API (read-only) | Personalising economic event impact scores to your portfolio |
| Institution name | SnapTrade | Displaying which brokerage you have connected |
- EconLens uses read-only access. We cannot make trades, transfer funds, or access brokerage credentials.
- SnapTrade handles all credential exchange directly with your financial institution via OAuth. EconLens never sees your brokerage username, password, or login credentials.
- SnapTrade user secrets are stored server-side in Google Cloud Firestore, encrypted at rest. They are never stored in the mobile client.
- You can disconnect your brokerage at any time from Settings → Brokerage Sync → Disconnect. On disconnection, EconLens revokes the SnapTrade authorisation immediately.
- On account deletion, the SnapTrade connection is fully revoked and all holdings data is permanently deleted.
1.4 Usage data and app analytics
We collect limited operational data to keep the App running correctly:
- Crash reports and error traces (collected by Sentry — see Section 4)
- App version and platform (iOS / macOS)
We do not collect advertising identifiers, behavioral tracking data, or browsing history.
1.5 Content displayed in the App
EconLens displays economic event data enriched by an AI pipeline — including indicator forecasts, market impact assessments, and historical context. This content is sourced from public APIs (FRED and other public economic data sources) and stored in Google Cloud Firestore. No personal data is included in AI enrichment requests.
2. How we use your information
| Purpose | Data used | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Authenticate your identity and maintain your session | Name, email | Contract (providing the service you requested) |
| Display your profile within the App | Name, profile photo | Contract |
| Export economic event data to your Google Sheet | Google OAuth token, Sheet ID | Contract (optional feature you explicitly enable) |
| Retrieve and display portfolio holdings | SnapTrade user secret, holdings data | Contract (optional feature you explicitly enable via SnapTrade OAuth) |
| Monitor for crashes and errors | Device/app metadata, error traces | Legitimate interest (service reliability) |
| Subscription and entitlement management | Firebase UID linked to RevenueCat | Contract (if you purchase a subscription) |
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising.
3. Data storage and retention
- Your account data (name, email, profile photo URL) is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Authentication), hosted in the United States.
- Session tokens are stored on-device only and are cleared when you sign out.
- Crash reports are stored in Sentry for up to 90 days.
- Google OAuth tokens for Sheets access are stored securely in iOS Keychain and are revoked immediately when you disconnect.
- We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is deleted within 30 days.
4. Third-party services
The App uses the following third-party services that may process personal data:
| Service | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase | Account authentication, data storage | https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Google Sign-In | OAuth sign-in | https://policies.google.com/privacy |
| Google Sheets API | Optional data export (with your explicit consent) | https://policies.google.com/privacy |
| Apple Sign In | OAuth sign-in | https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/ |
| Sentry | Crash reporting and error monitoring | https://sentry.io/privacy/ |
| RevenueCat | Subscription and entitlement management | https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy |
| SnapTrade | Brokerage data retrieval — read-only investments product (optional) | https://snaptrade.com/privacy-policy |
| Google Gemini AI | AI enrichment of economic event data — primary provider (no personal data sent) | https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms |
| Groq | AI enrichment of economic event data — fallback provider (no personal data sent) | https://groq.com/privacy-policy/ |
Note on AI enrichment: The agent pipeline sends only publicly available economic data (FRED indicator names, series identifiers, release dates, and public economic values) to AI providers for analysis. No personal user data, portfolio holdings, or account identifiers are included in any AI enrichment request. The primary AI provider is Google Gemini AI; Groq is used as a fallback.
5. Data transfers
Your data is stored on servers in the United States (Google Cloud / Firebase infrastructure). If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), your data is transferred to the US under Google's standard contractual clauses, which comply with GDPR transfer requirements.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:
All users: - Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. - Deletion: Request that we delete your account and associated data. We will complete deletion within 30 days. - Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate data.
European Economic Area (GDPR): - Right to restrict processing - Right to data portability - Right to object to processing based on legitimate interest - Right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
California residents (CCPA): - Right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used - Right to opt out of sale (we do not sell personal data) - Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@econlens.ai.
7. Account deletion
You can delete your account from Settings → Profile → Delete Account. Deleting your account will:
- Remove your Firestore data (saved preferences, account details)
- Delete your Firebase Authentication record
- Clear your on-device session and keychain entries
- Revoke any connected Google Sheets OAuth access
- Revoke your SnapTrade brokerage connection and permanently delete all portfolio holdings data (if connected)
Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
8. Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at privacy@econlens.ai and we will delete it promptly.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data:
- Firebase Authentication manages all tokens; we never store passwords
- All data in transit is encrypted using TLS
- Firebase Firestore security rules restrict each user to their own data
- Firebase Auth session tokens are stored in iOS Keychain by the Firebase Auth SDK (native iOS behavior)
- Sentry is configured to redact authentication tokens from all error payloads
No security measure is perfect. If you discover a vulnerability, please report it to privacy@econlens.ai.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. If changes are material, we will notify you within the App. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
